Rice planting in the Jike countryside, northern Yokohama (Part 1)

(May 14, 2013)

When I visited Jike on May 14, most of the rice fields were ready for planting: some already filled with water, others done with plowing and awaiting water (I found out that only one rice field had already been planted). Some ducks were seen in the rice fields. They will perform the important role of eating weeds and pests: thus minimizing the use of chemical fertilizer and agrichemicals for growing rice. One of the photos below shows rice seed beds.
