It is customary to visit a Shinto shirine on January 1; this small, pleasant shrine is in our neighbourhood. Some "Ema" tablets, kind of wish cards, are shown in the bottom left photo. What is she doing (in the bottom center photo)? Actually, she's tying a fortune slip (a written oracle) to a string, wishing for the realization of what is said on it if it is favourable, or for it not to happen if unfavourable. Finally, a photo on the bottom right shows some items of good fortune that I got from the shrine to be kept at my home for a year.
